The collection highlights the struggles Black women face with equality and underrepresentation in the U.S., especially in fields like NASA. Inspired by Sun Ra and Nikki Giovanni, the collection imagines Black women leading future space colonization through wisdom, resilience, and sustainable innovation: Echoing Giovanni's idea that Black women endure Earth's hardships, I imagine them approaching new worlds. with ancestral knowledge and care. The yoga wear is functional and dyed with indigo and madder using shibori techniques, reflecting what Black women might wear to thrive in space. Designs combine protective spacesuit elements with the flexibility of yoga wear, using geometric silhouettes inspired by Pierre Cardin and ancient Egyptian yoga poses. Sustainability is central, with materials like bamboo, linen, and natural dyes.
